Watch the video

Our teaching partners Janna Madrinan, August Post and Edith Montemayor from Elk Grove, California -- part of the Bukang Liwayway Pilipino-Amerikano Pangarap Asosasyon (BLPAPA) -- introduce the basic steps of the tinikling dance.

Tinikling is a traditional Filipino dance that consists of two dancers hitting bamboo poles on the ground and against each other while a third dancer hops between the poles. The dance originated in the Philippines' central Visayan islands, inspired by the way the tikling bird dodges rice farmers' bamboo traps. Sounds hard? No way! You can do it too!
