SATAN, ADAM AND YOU

"Satan" was Sterling "Satan" Magee, a dynamo of a blues guitarist who became a fixture on the streets of Harlem in New York in the 1970's and '80s. "Adam" was -- and still is -- Adam Gussow, a harmonica wiz who first crossed paths with Satan in the early '80s when he was in a masters program for English at Columbia University. Gussow didn't connect with Satan then, but a few years later, after he had dropped out of Columbia and had bounced around Europe playing harmonica on street corners, he and Satan began to jam...and the result was pure magic. Satan's guitar playing, one-band-band cymbal playing and vocals met Adam's chunky harmonica playing in a growl. The two became a hit in New York and the blues world took note. “Satan and Adam” released their first album, the extaorindary, "Harlem Blues," in 1991.
