LA MURGA

Salsa is a phenomenal fusion of many Latin American genres, a pan-Latin form of music that began to blend in Cuba 1950’s and truly consolidated in the 1970’s in New York. “La Murga” is a superb salsa tune by New York-based Willie Colon and Puerto Rican vocalist Hector Lavoe. The “murga” Lavoe is singing about is a reference to the groups of street musicians that gather during Carnival and march from spot to spot playing songs and getting people to dance.
