BAJO SEXTO y ACCORDEON
“Bajo Sexto y Accordeon” is a rollicking conjunto/tejano song found on the recent Smithsonian recording “Taquachito Nights: Conjunto Music from South Texas.” This is one of the songs a conjunto band might sing with a loose set of lyrics to praise the musicians in attendance, essentially introducing the band and the instruments they play, with a nod to their musical prowess. The essential instruments, without which conjunto is not conjunto, are the “baxo sexto,” which is a guitar with twelve strings—six different tones, each doubled—and the accordion.
