Our partner Natalia Ashe and members of the Zabava Russia Dance Group (http://www.Zababadance.com) introduce us to the classic Russian folk dance, Kalinka.

“Kalinka' is a Russian folk song, written in 1860 by Ivan Larionov, that has had multiple lives: as a beloved pre-Soviet traditional standard, a sanctioned Soviet-era folk anthem, a post-Soviet electro-pop hit and, not at all least, the soundtrack for "Tetris." It has also become an internationally popular folk dance that you may recognize from a wedding, bar mitzvah or random late night college party. The words "Kalinka moya" mean, “snowberry of mine, referring to the red berry of the "snowball" tree.
