Watch the video

Our partners, global musician/dancer Moses Beyeeman and drummer Edziwan Konu, both of the Tsooboi Ensemble (https://ethnocloud.com/Tsooboi_Ensemb..., introduce us to the Kpanlogo, a dance that originated in the West Afrian nation of Ghana.

In the context of the traditional tale Moses introduces in the video, the KPANLOGO is a recreational dance, of the Ga people which they created in the late ’50s/early ’60s in part to celebrate Ghana’s independence from the British. The movements are bold and radiate joy. The term "kpanlogo" can also refer to a type of drum, as well to a style of music that has had substantial influence in the West.

We dance in this video to Beyeeman's “ABCD,” a basic pattern of moves that drummers, singers and dancers use while drumming, singing and dancing Kpanlogo.
